Adored Swedish candy brand with Cape Cod roots opens first Mass. storefront

A Swedish candy concept with a devoted social media following has expanded beyond pop-ups by opening a permanent location.

The Sweetish Fish officially welcomed customers to its first store at The Street Chestnut Hill on Friday, May 1. The opening comes after the candy company had a successful year of pop-ups and a seasonal residency at The Current in Boston Seaport.

The Chestnut Hill store features a rotating “Catch of the Day” menu with 18 international candy selections, a full-service scooping experience and specialty treats, including chocolate sardines from a women-owned New England chocolatier.

The Sweetish Fish can be found at The Street Chestnut Hill at 33 Boylston St., next to Blue Bottle Coffee. The store is open 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon to 6 p.m. Sunday.

Founded by Cape Cod natives Savanna Vaughn and Cara Crupi-Dulmaine, The Sweetish Fish puts a fresh spin on the traditional candy store with an immersive design-forward space inspired by Cape Cod roots and Scandinavian aesthetic.

Past candies offered at the shop’s Boston pop-up included Tutti Frutti Bubs, Happy Cola People and Sweet Mini Eggs. The brand also continues to operate regularly on Cape Cod.

The Sweetish Fish has garnered a large social media following, with more than 13,000 followers on TikTok and 29,000 followers on Instagram.
