The Street Chestnut Hill’s culinary options have never been so sweet or so ahead of the trends – acclaimed New York City based ice cream shop, OddFellows Ice Cream Co., will arrive at the property in summer 2019. Equal parts modern and nostalgic, OddFellows is known in New York as the first ice cream shop with a “happy hour” and its location at The Street will serve up an inventive variety of ice cream, sorbet, and non-dairy flavors, as well as its famous beer and wine floats. OddFellows will be located under Legal Sea Foods.
OddFellows originated in New York when Co-Founder Mohan Kumar tried to appease his pregnant wife Holiday’s eclectic craving for savory ice cream. When a homemade creation from Sam Mason, a James Beard nominee and former pastry chef of NYC’s legendary wd~50, did the trick, the trio quickly joined forces. Today, Mason’s handcrafted, authentic recipes now span over 400 flavors.
Guests will be more than delighted by a rotating selection of innovative scoops like Burnt Marshmallow, Chorizo Caramel Swirl, Extra Virgin Olive Oil, and Black Pepper Fig, and unique renditions of the much-loved classics such as Cookies N’ Cream, Strawberry Jam and Matcha Rocky Road.
In addition to its celebrated scoops menu, OddFellows is known in New York as the first ice cream shop with a “happy hour.” The Street location will feature a curated beer and wine list focused on natural wines and organic producers, local beers, and boozy ice cream concoctions including beer and wine floats.
A throwback to the classic 50′s ice cream parlor, OddFellows at The Street will be decked out with bright red banquettes, built-in bar stools along a 21-foot bar, red and white tiling, gold speckled tabletops and lowered ice cream displays for little ones to easily preview the daily selections. In addition to offering indoor seating, OddFellows at The Street will accommodate guests on a vibrant outdoor patio. Giving a modern spin on OddFellows’ signature retro feel, the new location will feature design elements unique to The Street like mirror lined walls for an open-air feel and custom wall art by New York based illustrator,Cerise Zelenetz.
“We are thrilled to be coming to Boston and Chestnut Hill for so many reasons. Boston is a great ice cream city that appreciates quality, so we knew it would be the perfect location for our first shop outside of New York City! We’re excited to be part of the community and showcase our unique flavors, as well as our classics, for all to indulge in year-round,” says Mohan Kumar, Co-Owner of OddFellows.
“OddFellows is the ultimate ice cream experience and nostalgic treat. Its innovative menu of scoops and unique concoctions puts a clever twist on the classic ice cream shop, one that complements our culinary offerings perfectly. Now, whatever you are craving, you can likely find it at The Street,” says Alana Frey, General Manager of The Street.
